It was sunday, december 20, 2008.
At dawn, I was awaken by the lousy music outside, whose incessant volume is but a noise pollution.
At 6am, i found myself walking with strangers to abellana sports center. No rides available.
I stopped at chowking colon to buy some food, so i would be equipped with lunch for the whole day affair at abellana. Two orders of shanghai lauriat, siopao and coffee.
I walked three more blocks and i found myself queueing because the gates were not yet open until 7am.
My hands were achy and the tip of my fingers turned purple with the bags of food i carried.
The morning sun shone directly at the grandstand where the audience were busy situating for their comfortabe seats. Ok, so it was vitamin D, my colleague texted, so i wouldn't grumble much of the sun rays. Sunbathing, it was!
I got a smart sim freebie, I swapped for the globe one from a stranger.
Waiting for the 9am kickoff of the program, newspaper and coffee was already consumed. No, I did not eat the newspaper.
My heart leapt when the presentations started. During the opening speeches, four parachuteers landed.
Pit senyor!
I almost cried; I did not know why.
I saw familiar strangers: (in no particular order) PBB Housemates (Riza, Ruben, Gabby, Baron, Ethel, Will, Donnie), Kapamilya Stars (Cesar Montano, Jake Cuenca, Anne Curtis, Sam Milby, Angel Locsin), Kapuso Stars (Richard Gutierrez, et. al), Joseph Bitangcol, Pauleen Luna, Giselle Sanchez, et. al. I am not that starstrucked; I cant remember most of them.
Landonian Tribe was very lame. Tribu Lumad Basakanon was very good but I was not impressed. The umbrella props of the Leyte contingent was very colorful and intriguing.
I cringe whenever an infamous wave pattern is done.
It rained, ruining the dances of some contingents because they did not perform on the slippery stage but on the small rubberized track. That's what you call, the show must go on. The rain stopped after a few contingents.
I was not impressed with the overall presentation of Tribu Sinanduloy although the dance was very good. Pintaflores of Negros was also disappointing; their costumes were lame.
The closing presentation ala Las Vegas was so fabulous.
Then the fireworks display.
I went home walking in the rainshower.
Viva!
